Tall Personal Shopping: Tall Dresses for an Active Mature Lady

I received a tall personal shopping request via Facebook for a 79 year old tall lady looking for size 18T in dresses that she can wear to church. She also commented that she is an active lady. I am so happy to see that we have such a wide range of ages visiting our websites.

Well, I have bad news and good news. First the bad news. There aren't a whole lot of size 18T dresses in stock right now and the ones that I have found aren't very age appropriate for you. The good news is that I have put together some separtes in skirts, jackets and blouses that would work well for you.

Classic Church - the first tall outfit is a conservative suit in a bright blue color. It can be worn to a variety of events from church to weddings.

Mature Moxie is an outfit that starts with a figure flattering skirt that can be worn with a variety of tops and sweaters. Add a gorgeous chiffon, flowy top. Throw on some matching accessories and you've got a mature, yet sophistacted look that will be a classic for years.

Tall Personal Shopping: A New Year, A New Tall Wardrobe

I received a personal shopping request from Rebecca who is ready for a whole need wardrobe. She feels like she's in a rut and has no idea how to dress. Rebecca is 32 years old with a 34"-36" inseam depending on shoe height. She wears a size 11 shoe. She has always been relatively thin and was placed on medication that made her gain a lot of weight.  Lately she's lost most of it and is now wearing a size 10 or 12.

She says "I have been buying unflattering fat clothes for the last few years, now I have nothing up-to-date in my current sizes. I am pretty conservative, but I am always up for new and trendy clothes - I love clothes.  I am just horrible at picking them out and mixing and matching."

Rebecca needs a new pair of jeans, work clothes, comfy shoes as she lives in Europe and walks a lot, and would like a leather jacket. Luckily she has an APO address, so can get most things shipped there.
Doesn't this request sound like fun? I hope she'll also invest in a new hair style to complete the look.  Let's get started with the recommendations:

First off, when you aren't sure how to dress, I suggest you start by taking a look at our special of Women's Tall Clothing Basics - as it will give you a good idea of foundational pieces that most tall women need in their wardrobe.

You may also want to browse past tall personal shopping shopping recommendations on this blog.

I've created individual recommendations for you and to maximum your budget, most of the casual items can also be worn to work. The great news is that most items are on sale, but hurry as they won't last long.

Casual Tall Separates - mix and match the tops with your work pants.

November 2011 Monthly Recap

Tall Personal Shopping: Tall Business Clothes

We're on a roll with personal shopper requests! Here is the latest:
"I would greatly appreciate assistance in my search for a decent wardrobe that fits me! I am 40, 6’1, with a 37 inch inseam, and a size 4 (127 lbs). I work in the professional realm, so a nicely fitting suit is always a great find. I prefer black, with a tailored feel. Long sleeved shirts that are cinched at the waist, or short sleeved patterned shirts work. I like stylish. I like a low rise waist, love a cuffed trouser. Love pencil skirts. Jeans are the hardest thing for me to find that fit well. Easy to find a 6, or higher, but a 4 with an extra long inseam is difficult. I usually find that to get a good fit, I have to pay a lot more, so if you can keep me in the $60-70 for separates, I appreciate it! I love a good sale! My suits generally run $150, when they are on sale. Occasionally I can find one for $80, and that is a big deal! Thank you for your help!" - Angela

Angela,

Many of the items you have requested can be found in our special section of Women's Tall Clothing Basics.
I have combed the best online stores to find pieces that fit your size, inseam, and tastes. As much as I'd love to be able to present you with a lot of suit choices, they are difficult to find in your size. The key to a nice looking wardrobe will be for you to purchase high quality separates that can be mixed to create many different options.

Tall Personal Shopping: Tall Shirts for Wide Shoulders and Small Chest

Tall Personal Shopping Request

"I'm 5'10 and small-busted but with broad shoulders. I am generally happy buying my work pants online at Ann Taylor and The Gap, which both carry small talls. My problem is the long-sleeve blouse styles available -- AT and ATLoft don't offer Tall blouses, and The Gap's are limited to button-ups and other unflattering-to-me styles. I would like a feminine, long-sleeve alternative to button-up shirts, such as light sweaters, wrap blouses, etc. I'd really love to find something that would fit both my shoulders and my bust, but I'm willing to tailor down the body if the size that fits my shoulders is too large in the torso. (For perspective, I recently bought a suit with a 6T jacket and 2T pants, then had the jacket taken in.)" - Courtney

Courtney,

You've really given me a challenge to mull over. Women's long sleeve shirts in "tall sizes" are rare and you're correct in that most of them are button-up styles. I've found a few choices for you, but you may have to compromise on some of the sleeve lengths. Long sleeve tall shirts are so rare, and the last few months I have been doing my research as I'm actually contemplating designing some women's tall shirts. I would love every one's feed back on this, as it would be a huge undertaking. What do you think, do we need more "tall" shirts? If so, what styles would you love?

Any way, back to your question. V-neck shirts will be universally flattering on anyone. They can help your broad shoulders appear narrower. As you probably already know, any details around the breast area can help disguise small breasts.

eShakti custom made wrap top - customized with your measurements. You can even have the sleeves made in any length you desire including long sleeves. 2 colors

I hope this helps. If anyone else has come across some tall shirts that would work for Courtney, please leave a comment below.

Tall Personal Shopping: "I Want to Be Flo from Progressive Auto for Halloween"

I got a crazy email from Diana. She wants to be Flo from the Progessive commercials as her Halloween costume, but needs help finding some pants to finish off the look.

Diana says "I'm in need of white jeans. Or at least that's what I think she's wearing. I can't tell if they're really light khakis. Either way. I'm 29, and I'm In between a 12 & a 14 tall/long but leaning more towards a 12. I do have a booty and I usually do really good with the New York & Co. brand. I wear about a 34" inseam.
This is a Halloween costume so I really don't feel like paying a ton of money for a pair of jeans I'll never wear again. Anything below $60 is ok with me. I'd prefer that they are boot cut too."

I must say I think this costume idea is hilarious! I looked on Google and there's all kinds of tutorials on how to recreate this look including this one.

Here are the options of white jeans or pants that I found for you:
Long Tall Sally - Cotton Sateen Bootleg Pants in white with 34" inseam.
On sale for $35.

Banana Republic White denim trouser
Banana Republic White Denim Trouser in regular length = 34" inseam.
On sale for $40.

I hope this helps! For the record, both of these pants are stylish enough that you should wear them next Spring and Summer.

Tall Personal Shopping: Boots & Coat

I received a request from Christine, a 5'11" tall woman who is 54 year old. She is looking for 2 items. The first request is for a classic black or brown tall boot in a size 11. She would like them to be sleek with no adornments and a flat heel. She will be wearing them with skirts and has had bad luck with tall boots stretching out and falling down or not being long enough to reach her knees. Her calf circumference is 14".
The good news is that I believe I have searched everywhere and found you some options that will fit. The bad news is that the ones I like the most are very pricey, but I've included them to give you the most options.

The second item she would love to find is a knee-length or longer  tall, black, down coat with a hood. Christine wears a size 10. Here are the options:
Eddie Bauer Essential Down Parka

I hope I've been able to find you some great choices! Everyone feel free to chime in with a comment and tell us what item(s) you think Christine should purchase.

My Most Memorable Tall Personal Shopper Request

When I started Tall Clothing Mall, immediately I received requests for help finding specific items. I like to refer to myself as your tall personal shopper with an emphasis on personal. One of my earliest requests was from Kara in Australia. Kara wrote that she is a tall, plus sized woman and couldn't find work pants anywhere.  She was on her last pair of pants and they were pretty thread worn. She would wear them to work every day and wash every night so she can wear them again the next day. She begged for help finding some pants in her size, but didn't have much money.
This request for help touched my heart. I totally got it!  My own self-sacrificing Mother spent the majority of my childhood with one pair of black pants that she would wear every single night, wash and then wear the next day. Our family had very little money and my Mother sacrified her wants so that her own 4 kids could have nice looking clothing.
I immediately set out to help Kara. I gave her several options. She ended up liking the price and styles of the tall pants at Alloy. (don't we all?) When she went to place her order, they told her they didn't ship to Australia. Kara and I worked out a solution. Kara ordered the pants and had them shipped to my address. I then shipped them to her house and she paid me the shipping costs via PayPal. Please don't think I'm advocating to become a shipping company, I'd rather just help you find items you need. But, I couldn't let Kara suffer without helping her out.
Kara is one of my biggest inspirations! I have tried to be the biggest and best resource for tall clothes on my website Tall Clothing Mall. I constantly visualize the tall and plus sized, or the extra tall and thin woman who is so frustrated with trying to find flattering styles of clothes. If you fit this demographic, you are not alone! The great news is that it's a great time to be Tall! There is more tall clothing now than every before.  If you need help finding something special, I'm happy to be your tall personal shopper!

Women's 37" Inseam Khaki Pants

I received an email from a Mother looking for some khaki pants for her daughter.
"My daughter performs with a local theater company and as an ambassador for the company she and a hand full of others represent the program throughout the year. This group is uniform in dress when out and about with the exception of my daughter. :( She is required to wear light khaki slacks with belt loops and a long sleeve shirt. The company provides a well fitting shirt but the slacks have been a huge problem. My daughter is 16, 6' and requires a size 8 or a 34 X 37 pant. Do you have any idea where to find such a thing or a tailor in the California, central valley?"
My solution:
Most of the traditional stores have taken the "tall sizes" out of the stores and sell them exclusively online. I personally don't know of a tailor in your area. The good news is that I have found a couple of pair of pants that may work for her, so hopefully you have time to order them.

Alloy sells a strech poplin tall khaki pants in a 37" inseam in sizes 1-25. They are a stetch poplin mid-rise trouser with hook closure, front slit pockets and back envelope pockets. $37.50.

Or,
Alloy's extend-tab stretch twill khaki pants with a 37" inseam. Stretch twill mid-rise trousers with three-button extend-tab closure and back slit pockets. Sizes 1-25 $37.90Also, get free shipping On Alloy orders over $25 with code "A25FS".
We have also updated our women's tall khaki pants section with more inseam lengths.
